Dragon stories

Thank you to all the children (and families) who have worked so hard on creating amazing dragon stories for homework. So many children have been really keen to read these out to their friends at school. It’s great to see how proud the children are of their work, and what exciting stories they have created! Good job, Skipper 4!

Music

Skipper 4 have been learning about ‘timbre’. This is the different sorts of sounds we can make, by playing instruments in different ways or combining sounds in different ways. We have been making sounds that sound’ red’ to us, or ‘blue’ or ‘yellow’. We were all surprised by how much we agreed what a yellow of a black sound should sound like! It was bveen great fun. We’ve also composed pieces in groups and performed these to the class.

Science – Electricity

The children have loved exploring our new science topic on electricity. We have learned what we need in order to make an electrical circuit, and that batteries produce electrical energy using a chemical reaction. We have explored which circuits do and don’t work and why. In this topic, we will also be learning about conductors and insulators, and how switches work.

Wonderful Home Learning projects

We loved sharing all of these with the class. What amazing projects were created by lots of families! Thank you Skipper 4 for all your efforts. We hope you loved making these as much as we loved sharing them with you. Can you see our scary warrior poses?!

Big Trax Programming

We have learned how to use Logo language to programme in our computing lessons. This is us putting it into practice using Big Trax programmable vehicles. It was great fun. We had to navigate around obstacles and hope they didn’t crash – we had a couple of near misses! It was very exciting.

Painting

We have been studying Angie Lewin and designing our own Angie Lewin – inspired art work. This will be mixed media. We have practised using watercolours and are now on to poster paint. We will also be using pen and oil pastel to add line and colour. It’s great fun!

Here are some pictures of us in the zone!

Welcome to Year 4!

What a lovely start the children have made to Year 4. We have already started learning about the Anglo-Saxons in History, Teeth and Digestion in Science, improving our understanding of place value in maths, considering thousands and 4-digit numbers, and practising some grammar, including nouns, prepositions, and descriptive noun phrases. We are reading The Iron Man for guided reading which has been very exciting to read so far, especially now a Space Dragon seems to be heading towards the Earth! The Year 4s are showing that they can be very sensible, kind and caring. Our class charter is below – we are trying our best to stick to this all the time!

Speaking of dragons, we had a very strange surprise delivery this morning. Here are some photos. Ask your child to tell you all about it!
