Space scene 🪐 👽

We turned up to an unbelievable sight on Monday. Something or someone had left a huge mess in our classroom. We’ve been so curious about it and finally came to the conclusion that it must’ve been an alien! There was slime, tools, an egg of some sort, rocks and more. Mr Tims, the caretaker, told us to write an incident report so that he could gather some more information before clearing up the mess.

Happy Chinese New Year 🇨🇳 🧧

We learnt all about this colourful and happy celebration in China. We enjoyed listening to Abi and Yin telling us all about their traditions including going to a parade and watching the dragon dance, eating a big family meal, and wearing new clothes. As a class we talked about our own traditions and celebrations too.

We celebrated by creating our own Chinese dragon using paint and handprints, we even had a go at writing in Chinese which was very different! We made dragons from Duplo and learnt all about the Chinese zodiac. This year it’s the year of the rat. We had the opportunity to try a little bit of Chinese food and make our own lantern. A fantastic day full of new experiences.

Clay hedgehogs 🦔

We went on a nature walk last week to collect twigs to make our clay hedgehogs and here they are! Aren’t they so lovely? We rolled the clay into balls and pinched the front to create a nose. We added a button for a nose and the twigs for the spikes. We love our hedgehogs and have not stopped looking at them.

The Mitten by Jan Brett 🦔 🦊 🦉 🦡 🐭 🐻

In our literacy we have been enjoying a Ukrainian folktale called The Mitten by the author Jan Brett. We have read it, story mapped it and written our own favourite parts of the story. We have thought of ourselves as mini authors and even had a book reading in front of the class where we read our stories to our friends. See some of our writing below.

Creative arts

This half term the children are rotating around three new creative arts activities. They will be doing sketching, poetry through the art of singing and learning the Cha Cha Cha in dance. This week in our sketching session we explored shading using artists pencils and then drawing a bear. We’ve been reading the story called The Mitten which features a bear character. We followed instructions and all drew the same part at the same time. We love how unique every drawing is.
