Skipper Superstars 🌟

Wow, what a special day. We performed twice and loved every minute of. We even had time to squeeze in some phonics learning in between performances! It’s been a great couple of weeks learning our story through the art of story telling, story mapping and actions and we hope you loved watching the end product on stage today. We are very proud of every child. What an amazing class!

Our Christmas making afternoon

We enjoyed pairing up with Skipper 3 to make decorations to sell at the Christmas fair next Friday 6th December. We had an afternoon of Christmas arts and crafts with friends and family of Skipper 3. A fun and festive afternoon had by all.

Don’t forget you can catch our wares at the fair next Friday!

Guided reading 📚

We are really enjoying our daily guided reading sessions. It’s a chance for us to enjoy books and talk about what we read, practise our phonics skills and become fluent and confident readers. It’s been wonderful hearing the children read their first words and sentences, what a privilege! I’ve loved reading all of the comments from home in their home school reading diaries. Thank you for all your support with your child’s reading, it’s so important and makes a huge difference.

Be sure to check out the guided reading support page here on the blog for more information and ideas.

Friendship week

We had a great week celebrating friendship. It was so lovely to see the children making cards for one another or inviting friends to play with them. The children really went above and beyond to make their friendship pal feel extra loved and included this week. Thank you for supporting and encouraging your children at home too. We ended the week dressed as our hero’s and it was lovely to see how the children had been inspired by their hero’s.

If you go down to the woods today… 🌳 🌳

We LOVED our trip to Thorncombe Woods. We walked, talked, explored, looked and listened. On our way through the tall trees and beautiful bushes we kept an eye out for any characters from the Gruffalo. Although we didn’t spot any we did see some colourful mushrooms, a small wooden door at the bottom of a tree, some horses and a few bogs!

We loved going on a nature hunt and finding things that we thought were beautiful or that made us smile. We collected things of our favourite colours and things we were intrigued by. We’ll create some natural art with what we collected later on this week.

A beautiful trip with a beautiful class.

Maths investigators

This week we’ve been investigating number. We started by finding numbers using lots of different resources. We found number 4 using dice, Numicon and dominoes. We found number 8 using clock faces, fingers and cubes. We worked with lots of numbers and found that there are many ways to show a number.

See what numbers we can spot when you’re out and about.

Creative Arts afternoon 🎨 🥁 🧘‍♂️

Today we kick started our creative arts rotation afternoon. Every Tuesday the children will rotate around three different activities. They visit Miss Baker for art, Miss Hudson for PE and me for drumming. In art today they created some colourful bonfire art. In PE they stretched out with some gentle yoga and in drumming we played a stop and start game and the weather game. We had so much fun, ask us all about it.

PE

Over the last two weeks we have been practising our safe landings when jumping from a height and balancing confidently. We have loved using the apparatus and learning how to control our bodies to move safely and confidently.
