Art– Tints and Shades of Blue
These works of art are all very different – but can you work out what is the same?
That’s right – they each have different shades of blue in them!
Today we are going to explore tints and shades of blue.
If you have some paints or pastels at home try making your own tints and shades of blue. Start with blue then add increasing amounts of white for tints or black for shades. Talk to someone at home about what you notice as you add in black or white. You could create your own colour chart, picture or just have fun exploring what happens!
Or why not go on a hunt around the house to see how many different blue things you can spot? You might like to gather some objects and create your own piece of 3D art…
Maths – Estimating Duration of Time Live 9.30am
Can you think of activities that take one second to do? Repeat this exercise to discuss activities that take one minute and one hour.
Have a look at these examples, they may help you think of more!
ACTIVITY TIME:
Use a digital timer or stopwatch to show the duration of seconds and minutes by timing your child doing certain activities – this could be writing their names, drawing a picture, exercises. This will give pupils a sense of the duration of time.
Now work your way through the Guided Practice questions below and then complete page 110 in your workbook.
Maths Challenge Time:
Maths – Next, Before and After (live at 9.30)
Look at the picture below. It shows the activities that Ravi did in one evening. Can you order the activities from the first thing Ravi did in the evening to the last. What do you need to look at? Are there any similarities between comparing these times and comparing numbers (tens first/hour first, ones next/minutes next)?
Check you were correct by looking through the Let’s Learn. Can you use the words Next, Before and After to describe the order of the activities?
Maths Journal Activity:
You will need your red book. You can print out blank clock faces here… or you can draw your own clocks!
We would like you to keep a Time Diary today! Choose 6 activities you have done/are doing today. Carefully draw the time of each activity onto a clock face. Draw a picture and label with your activity. Don’t forget to put them in time order. You can get some inspiration from my time diary below! Don’t forget to send in your photos!

Can we find spirals under the sea?
Yesterday we watched a video of creature like this:
Can you remember what it is? How do you know?
Can you describe a spiral or tell someone at home why it is a special shape?
Spirals can be found everywhere in nature – even under the sea…
What do you know about these spirals? Which do you find the most interesting?
Have a go at drawing some spirals – try starting from the middle and swirling outwards and then from the outside swirling in. Does one way work best? You could make spirals out of playdough or draw them onto tinfoil or even in shaving foam. We quite like this paper plate sea snail art as well! Don’t forget to decorate your spirals with stripes, spikes, or other patterns…
English (live at 9.30am) In the text it says “This is the snail with an itchy foot” When we say that people have itchy feet it means that they want to travel! The underside of a snail is called its foot! Why do you think she wants to travel? Where do you think she might like to go? Download the PDF and record your idea in the thought bubble. If you’d rather not print the sheet then record it in your red book. |

Science
In this lesson, we will be learning about living things and the features of living things. All living things need to be able to breathe, produce waste, grow and change, feed and reproduce. We will then finish the lesson looking in more detail at different types of diets that animals may have. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and most importantly your brain!

Maths- Telling Time to the Half Hour Live 9.30am
Look at the In Focus task below. Tell your learning partner what time is showing on Emma’s clock. Is the time in the evening or in the morning? How do we know?
Now have a look at Ravi’s clock. What is the difference? My friend says they think that Ravi’s clock must be upside down – do you think they are correct? Discuss this with your learning partner.
Now look at the Let’s Learn below. It might be helpful to have a paper circle to investigate making half!
What have you noticed about the number the minute hand is pointing at? What have you noticed about the hour hand? Has it stayed in the same place? Why might it have moved? Now look at Let’s Learn 3 which involves identifying the time in order.
Now have a go at the Guided Practice questions. Remember to consider if the activities are likely to be happening in the morning, afternoon or evening.
In your workbook complete pages 105 – 108. If you want a further challenge have a go at the Maths Challenge Below. Adults – There are some great ideas for asking questions too.

Look at the cover of this gorgeous book by Julia Donaldson. What can you see? If the animals could speak what might they say? What might they be thinking? Download the PDF and add your ideas into the speech and thought bubbles. If you don’t want to print it out, draw the animals in your red book with speech or thought bubbles.
Geography
Welcome to our first lesson on our new unit called the Oceans and Seas. Today, we will be learning about the 5 oceans on our earth and the location of them in relation to the 7 continents. We will be ordering them in size and discussing why the oceans are always in motion. In this lesson you will need a pencil, a piece of paper or an exercise book and your wonderful brain. Watch the lesson here.

Remind yourself of the oceans with a song-
You might like to use this colouring and labelling sheet to help you remember the oceans. You could colour it in or just talk about where each ocean is and check your answers on the second page.
Good morning Skipper 1! We hope you have had a lovely half term. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all today. Below is our timetable for the week. The catch up today will be some handwriting and a show and tell. Show or tell something you have enjoyed about half term. It could be your helmet to tell us about a bike ride, a drawing you have done, a new book you have read or even something you have made. Underneath is also a reminder of our google meet rules. Please look through with the children. Thank you. Mrs Hollingworth 🙂

Art– Creative Earth Art Competition
Creative Earth is an art competition for people aged 16 and under from across the UK, run by the UN COP26 Climate Change Conference in collaboration with WWF.
As part of the Together for Our Planet Campaign, they are inviting young people to get creative and show global leaders the world they want to live in.
Whether it’s green forests and garden cities, clear skies and wind turbines or oceans teeming with life they would like children to paint, draw or design a piece of art that shows how you’d like our planet to look in the future. The art work must fit within the circle and the colour green must be included.
The UK is hosting COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, bringing together world leaders to tackle climate change and ensure a better future for us all.
The winners will have their artwork displayed at COP26 to show the rest of the world the vision for the future. The closing date is Sunday 28th February.
You can send an image of the completed artwork to TogetherForOurPlanet@cabinetoffice.gov.uk with the subject title “Creative Earth – <Your Name>”. Please keep the original artwork until the competition winner is announced.

Maths – Telling Time to the Hour Live 9.30am
Have a look at the picture below. What do you already know about clocks?
Tell an adult everything you know about clocks. Prompt them with ideas about minute/hour hands, hours, seconds, minutes, morning, afternoon, evening, o’clock and so on.
Look at the In Focus task below. What time does the clock show?
My friend said it is 12 o’clock. Is my friend correct? How do we know?
Is it 8 o’clock in the morning or the evening? Look at the picture of Hannah leaving her house for clues.
Now let’s look at question 2. What is the same about each hour? What is different? Now have a go at the Guided Practice below. Remember to look for clues in the pictures. How can we be sure it is in the morning, afternoon or evening?
It’s now time for you to have a go! Please do pages 101 -104 in your Workbook. If you would like a bit of a challenge have a go at the maths challenge too (Just discuss your ideas, no need to write anything down).
Please note I am unable to do a live lesson at 11am today. I will do the phonics at 1.45 instead. Miss G

We wish all our families a happy and relaxing half term. It has been a strange half term but we are all thrilled with the level of engagement we have seen both in live lessons and the work coming in via email. We are both parents and recognise how difficult it is managing home learning particularly if you are also working from home. We thank you for your support, flexibility, kind words and good humour! Tomorrow is an INSET day so no lessons but I will drop off reading books to those who requested them. We will see you again on Monday 22nd February.

For PE today we would like you try out one of Andy’s Wild Workouts!
In this episode he travels to the freezing Arctic to see what he can find. He leaps with an Arctic fox, swims with eider ducks before meeting a huge, hungry polar bear. I thought you’d enjoy this as you all were really interested in polar bears last term. If you want you could always watch a few of the others too.

English Live 9.30am
This week we are going to be finding out about wolves.
Your first job is to think about what you would like to find out about them? Have you always wondered what wolves really eat or where they live? Please think of 2 questions you would like to learn about wolves. Write them into your red book as full sentences using capital letters and what do you need at the end for a question?
Next please watch this video about wolves. We are trying to find out some new facts so either note down some of the facts you hear, ask an adult to record the facts you hear or you could draw some little pictures to help you remember the facts for later.
You might not have found out all the answers to the questions you wanted to know so you could now go to google kids https://www.safesearchkids.com/google-kids/#.YBrIAiuTLrc
and type in the questions you wanted to ask and note down the answers. Or even read about wolves in some books or information pages online. https://www.coolkidfacts.com/wolf-facts/
Now we would like you to record some facts about wolves that you have found out, please write in full sentences. Keep these facts safe as you will need these and some of the other facts you have discovered for our Thursday English lesson.
Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day 2021 is being celebrated across the UK today.
With such a huge shift to remote learning and time spent on the internet, teaching our children about how to stay safe online has never been so important.
The theme of Safer Internet Day this year is about children learning how to tell the difference between fact and fiction and whether they can always trust what they see online.
In school we will be having a look at this assembly story:
https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/detective-digiduck-virtual-assembly-3-7s
Please also have a look at the first video clip on the link below which can spark a discussion about the following questions:
What can we trust or not trust? How do we know? How can I check it out? What do I do if I am worried?
This website also has a range of top tips, films, lessons and assemblies for all ages – please do visit if you would like to explore this theme further with your child or other children at home:
