Today we would like you to tune in to Letters and Sounds on You Tube – lesson 1. Emma is teaching us how the letter y at the end of a word can make the ‘ee’ sound as in silly, party, mummy, daddy, etc. Have a watch here
You might like to make up a silly sentence with some words ending in the y sound or start with one word and generate a rhyming list or real and nonsense words eg
Silly, billy, chilly…
This week we are looking at the work of French artist Henri Matisse. He created bold, bright collages using paper cut-outs. Matisse was inspired by nature and created cut-outs of birds, animals, sea creatures, leaves, flowers and even fruits and vegetables in his collages.
Can you create a collage from some paper cut-outs? You could draw or colour in your shapes on paper or card first. Have a look outside to get some inspiration from nature, like Matisse did!
If anyone is after an idea for a stocking filler we would be so grateful if Father Christmas could bring a pencil case this year!
As the classroom is a bit different at the moment each child has their own set of stationery in a pencil case. Unfortunately the pencil case zips all broke very quickly and we spend far too much time picking things up off the floor! So if your child would like to bring in their own pencil case next term we’d be very grateful. Please don’t send anything very precious though and no need for contents; we will just transfer their school stationery.
In phonics we are learning about split digraphs and the different ways of writing one sound. Today we investigated ee and went on a hunt around the room to find and sort the words. We saw ea, ee, e, and e_e like in the word Steve.
In maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. These are some of the photos from our outside shape hunt. Children, can you name these shapes and remember where the photos were taken?
Did you spot the rectangles, cylinders, square, cube, cuboid, circles and pyramids.
Well luckily we had 28 of them in Skipper 1 on Friday for Children in Need!
We had half the NHS, vets, grandads and our collective hero: Mrs Grubb who cleans our room each day. We were all proud to feature on Emily’s star and I really can say your children have been little heroes the way they have adapted to life in Year 1.
Our latest literacy book has been all about our planet and how we can all do more to look after it. We have asked questions, finished sentences and designed posters. The children have taken home a poster of something they want to do as their family challenge.
It might be turning the taps off, walking more, recycling or feeding the birds. This is our class one, tomorrow we will be creating special feeders for the birds. Let us know how you get on with your challenge!
